Caring for Your Rug |
You can increase the life of your area rugs just
by extending a little extra care to them.
In order to properly clean yarn braided rugs,
you need to use a vacuum that does not contain a
beater bar. (The beater bar is the rotating
brush.) If your vacuum cleaner does have a
beater bar, you should be able to raise it so
that it will not come in contact with the rug.
But perhaps a better way in which to clean the
rug would be to use only the upholstery
attachments. The idea is to clean your rug with
just the suction process because brushes will
pull at the yarns, thereby damaging the rug by
making it look fuzzy.
When you need to spot clean your rug, you may
use a cleanser that is very gentle along with a
cloth to blot the stain. Do not use a scrub
brush to clean the stain because it is actually
the brushes that will damage the rugs by making
them fuzzy, or it could cause a small tear in
the rug.
It will be necessary from time to time to take
your rug to a professional rug cleaner so that
he may clean your entire rug using his special
equipment for that purpose. Professional rug
cleaners will put the rug through a flat washer
that will clean and dry both sides of the rug.
Rugs that are composed of 100% polypropylene are
resistant to stains and will not need
professional cleaning. It is quite a simple
procedures to clean these types of rugs. All you
need to do is take them outside, clean them with
a gentle cleanser, then hose them off.
